Cats Protection is the leading national charity which rescues and rehomes unwanted and abandoned cats. Caribbean were approached by facilities managers at Cats Protection to discuss providing a screening solution to driving wind and rain issues at one of their adoption centres.

The design of the pens include an open mesh metal grill to the entire front of the side elevations, which allows air to breath through and the cats to roam without escaping. However due to the surrounding open fields of this cattery, rain easily blew in which was resulting in the cats pens becoming wet and uncomfortable, with the cats having to be temporarily moved whilst the pens were mopped up.

After looking at plans and product options, the Antiguan exterior roller blind was agreed upon, mainly due to the zip locking mechanism contained within the side channels which keeps the fabric locked in place at every position, rendering the blinds windproof and avoiding the chance of water passing between the fabric and side guides.

A combination of clearview panels, horizontally across the centre section of the blinds and mesh material to the top and bottom ensure that two way clear vision is maintained whilst allowing air to permeate through and heat build up inside to dissipate. To ensure the blinds could react quickly to sudden rain downpours and to avoid staff at the centre having to run round quickly lowering them, the blinds were motorised and each elevation group controlled by a touch button wall mounted transmitter located conveniently by the staff canteen.

The cats are now free to roam and play whatever the weather, some would go as far as saying they have been spoilt rotten.
