Ping Pong - Festival Terrace

Positioned in the heart of Londons Southbank, the Festival Terrace is a key local and tourist spot to enjoy a glass of wine and bite to eat from one of the many restaurants whilst soaking up the culture.

Contacted by Cada, who were responsible for undertaking the design of the new six figure sum outdoor terrace solution for Ping Pong, we were briefed with a requirement to provide a retractable sun shade as the roof of their bespoke designed terrace structure, which would cover a surface area of almost 70m² and subsequently would be an eye catching and striking feature to Ping Pongs outdoor area which is at the entrance to the Festival Terrace and adjacent to the many outdoor markets that take place behind the Festival Hall throughout the year.

Several options were put forward with our Cayman tensioned blind system best fitting the bill. Its 'U' shaped lateral guides, where the fabric runs within, stops any light leaking through the sides and was a key feature in the selection of this system, as there was going to be a run of 6 blinds side by side. Each blind was sized so that the lateral guides were positioned over the projecting horizontal support beam of the terrace structure. Detailed plans of our support bracket requirements and locations were provided to the nominated main contractor to allow these to be fabricated as part of the terrace structure, rather than bolted on afterwards.

Each blind featured co-ordinated black hardware and fabric, with the fabric protected via a NANO technology coating that cleans itself, particularly important in such a busy, built up environment. A timed control system automatically extends and retracts the roof blinds at pre-set times whilst operation via a wirefree transmitter allows manual control of the blinds as and when required.

The installation took just two days and the total project time from order to installation was less than 6 weeks.
