Getting Your Garden Ready for the Colder Months

It is sad to say that summer is over but there is a bright side to the end of this chapter which is the colourful season of autumn. It may be a little chillier but this is the season of transformation where we see plants and trees change colour, ploughed fields and morning dew. It is an exciting time of the year and it is also that time of the year to get your garden ready for the colder months ahead. Here is our top things you need to do.

  1. Cover or store your garden furniture and BBQ

If you do not have a dedicated sheltered outdoor living area then it is time to pack away the furniture in the shed, if you do not have space in the shed then make sure that they are covered to protect them from the frost.

  1. Clear the gutters

Over autumn we will be seeing more rain and wind which will blow the leaves into the gutters, causing an unwanted blockage. Get into the gutters early and clear the gutters to save you some trouble later.

  1. Clear the leaves

This can be a very mundane task so it is better to stay ahead of this by clearing the leaves regularly as you go through the season rather than letting it build up. Letting them build up will make your garden look messy as the rain sets in.

  1. Clean up

Give the garden a proper clean as it will be easier now whilst it is still slightly dry. Cut the grass and pressure wash the patio or decking. If you have a lot of plants in your garden then cut them back to make them look neat and tidy. Make use of your garden shed and store any items that you will no longer be needing.

  1. Start your new landscaping project

Autumn is the perfect time to begin your new landscaping project as the grounds will be soft, making it easier to work with if you have some major reconstruction to do. If you cannot fit it in now then the next opportunity to do so is in spring but do bear in mind that this is a popular time to get work done making contractors busy. If you want your garden ready for summer then we say autumn is you best call.

In reference to point number five, now is the prime time to get your new Outdoor Living Pod™ or Electric Awning installed whilst designing your new garden.
