The hardware mechanisms of our external blinds contain a number of features to ensure they can withstand weather conditions such as wind and rain, surviving the British weather conditions with ease. As standard our external blinds feature a slim fully enclosed cassette casing which provides a neat, protective hideaway for the blind fabric – protecting the fabric from harsh weather conditions. Our Dominica external blind even features an integrated cassette, designed to be integrated into the façade.
For a seamless attachment to façade our range of external blinds all come with a clever, two-part side guide which supports the headbox and conceals all the fixings – providing a seamless, flawless finish.
To ensure longevity and durability in the outside conditions we ensure all the hardware components used in our range of external blinds are built from corrosion-resistant, extruded aluminium and finish in an anthracite grey as standard.
For protection from the wind all of our external blinds feature Ziplock technology. Concealed within the side guides of each blind is a zip locking mechanism, this locks the fabric in place at all positions. The result is a blind that is wind resistant up to 31mph and capable of preventing light leakage.
All of our external blinds are available with both side and face fix guide mounting options.
As standard our external blinds are operated by a remote control or app. Our blinds feature quality motors, controls, sensors, and accessories from the global leader, Somfy, guaranteeing durability, reliability, and years of seamless operation.
The motor is a sealed powerful tubular motor within the roller tube, around which the fabric is wound, meaning it’s hidden and out of the way. This ensures they’re easy to use with activation controlled via remote control, wall switch, or a smartphone app when connected to a smart hub and home broadband. Through the app you can even schedule automatic opening or closing at set times daily.
To prevent interference, a secure rolling code is used that changes with each operation, and built-in thermal overload protection prevents motor damage from continuous use, for example, if a child or pet accidentally activates the transmitter. To protect the blind the Somfy tubular motor features the latest bi-directional (io) and obstacle detection technology to protect the blind from potential damage.
A popular optional extra is the inclusion of weather sensors which can automatically control the blinds. For example if the sensor detects strong winds it can raise the blinds to prevent damage. Equally the sensor can detect light levels to raise or lower the blinds at schedule intervals that suit your needs. The flexibility offered by weather sensors are a fantastic benefit.

How much do external blinds cost?
All our external blinds are bespoke, made to measure to your exact requirements and therefore the cost varies significantly depending on the model, specification (size, hardware colour, operation type…) and mounting detail.
Our external blinds start at £2,495 inc vat, installation & 5 year guarantee. To obtain a budget cost for your specific requirements is really simple using our estimate form, where you simply need to upload a photo of your application and some approximate measurements and then one of our estimators will be able to provide you with an accurate cost indication.

Can external blinds be used in the rain?
External roller blinds, as they are a vertical screen can be used in rain showers, as water cannot pool on the fabric. For roof blinds, providing they have a pitch of 14 degrees (or greater) as set out in European Directive EN 13561, then they also can be used in rain showers. At this pitch, rainwater will run off the fabric with the added advantage thanks to the exclusive TEXgard coating featured on our materials that it will clean surface dirt from the material ensuring it keeps a clean visual appearance.

Can you see through the fabric on external blinds?
If you select our most popular and exclusive Twilight Pearl dimout ‘mesh’ fabric, which is a micro-perforated fabric, during the day the view from inside to out will be maintained but passers by / onlookers cannot see in. At night, whilst the view is not reversed, if the light level is significantly greater inside than out and someone is within close proximity of the blind outside, there may be a blurred view from outside to in.
The perforations in our materials are uniformed over the surface area and do not allow water through from rain showers, due to their microscopic size and will if using the blind as a windbreak prevent gusts of wind as the perforations will diffuse wind along with light.
If no view through the material is required, for example on bedrooms or where privacy is an issue, then opt for our blockout solid fabric, that is a solid tightly woven fabric, without perforations.
