WATERPROOF AWNINGS
It is a common misconception that waterproof awnings are different to ‘regular’ awnings. A waterproof awning is simply a folding arm awning set to an appropriate pitch (angle) to ensure when either there is a persistent rain shower or a sudden heavy downpour that water runs off the material and does not pool on the fabric. Of course, a waterproof awning needs to be equipped with a high-quality material suitably treated to ensure the water does not absorb in the fibres and if a folding arm type awning that the arms can withstand the additional load the rainwater will create.
All Caribbean brand awnings are constructed from the highest quality materials, using super-strong extruded aluminium for the framework, hi-tensile double coiled springs and stainless steel cables or belts for the tensioning devices along with exclusive CBA fabrics from Sattler treated with the unique TEXgard coating, which offers outstanding water repellency (similar to that of a marine boat cover) along with preventing dirt adhering to the surface.
When our patio awnings are set with a pitch of 14 degrees (or greater) which corresponds with a slope of 25cm per metre, which is determined by the European Directive that all electric awnings must adhere to, water does not pool on the fabric, it simply runs off, with the added advantage, thanks to the unique TEXgard coating that our materials are impregnated with, that the rainwater takes all surface dirt and debris off with it, generating a self-clean effect. So not only do our rain awnings protect you from the wet weather, they clean themselves at the same time – clever!
Pergola awnings due to running on a fixed framework which offers additional rigidity can be equipped with a lesser slope, as little as 15cm fall per metre projection, whilst still ensuring rainwater will run off and thanks to the combination of the fabric being locked within the side guides and a grill to the inside of the leadrail, water runs down the fabric, into the leadrail out water evacuation points at each end of the leadrail into the supporting posts and exits from the bottom of the posts.
At survey, our knowledgeable surveyors will discuss with you the use and requirements of your awning, ensuring the correct awning is specified, manufactured and installed with the optimum pitch to meet your needs.
