Celebrating Our Female Workforce on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is an important time to reflect on gender equality through recognising the achievements of women and striving for further inclusion.

At Caribbean Blinds, we’re keen to highlight the importance of our female workforce who are essential to the success of our company.

On the 8th March every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrates the political, cultural and social achievements of women. The day was initially started as part of the suffrage movement where women all over the world campaigned for better working conditions, equal pay and political equality.

The concept of an entire day to celebrate women was first proposed by Clara Zetkin, who maintained that women from all over the world should have one day of the year – every year – to press for their demands. The first IWD in 1911 held in Copenhagen, Denmark, was evidently a success, attracting over 100 women from 17 different countries.

Our Managing Director, Stuart, comments: “Here at Caribbean Blinds, we have adapted our workplace to best accommodate working women through flexible hours and varied working patterns so they can experience the same opportunities and advance their careers the same way any man would.

Our office team comprises of seven women – some choose to work school hours, whereas others opt to work full days and take whole days off in return. Hours per week depend on the individual and their circumstances at any specific time. Even these small adjustments can make a huge difference to someone’s lifestyle and can minimise factors such as stress and childcare costs.”

At Caribbean Blinds, we go out of our way to ensure all our staff have an equal opportunity to excel and thrive in their careers. A positive work/life balance is important because business is better when everyone is happier.

Happy International Women’s Day!
