Case Study: Limitless Outdoor Living with a Double Louvered Pergola

Creating a garden that works in every season requires more than great design, it demands intelligent engineering, seamless integration and a deep understanding of how people truly want to live outdoors.

This ambitious Suffolk project showcases how a fully coordinated, dual-pergola solution transformed a garden into a flexible, weatherproof, all-season living environment.

The Brief

Following an extensive home refurbishment, our clients who were passionate outdoor entertainers, wanted to elevate their garden into a space that could be enjoyed every day, regardless of the British weather.

Previously reliant on umbrellas offering inconsistent shade and no real protection, they were looking for a solution that would:

  • Create a seamless indoor–outdoor connection
  • Provide full flexibility between open-air and sheltered living
  • Deliver a premium aesthetic in keeping with the renovated property
  • Ensure year-round usability without compromise

After researching louvered pergolas, the clients visited our Dream Gardens Show Site, arriving with detailed plans and leaving with a clear vision of what was possible.

The Solution

Working closely with the clients and their landscape architect, we designed a dual pergola structure configuration combining our Deluxe Pod and Deluxe+ Pod, creating a highly adaptable outdoor environment.

Designed Around Architecture & Light

A key consideration of the design was preserving natural light into the adjoining utility room. The Deluxe+ Pod, installed directly against the property, incorporates a 1.5m fixed glass roof section before transitioning into rotating louvres. This ensures zero light loss internally, while still delivering full weather protection externally.

The adjoining Deluxe Pod features a 150° rotating louvre roof, allowing precise control of sun, shade, airflow, and shelter.

Aesthetic Harmony with Added Warmth

The structures were carefully finished to complement the home’s architecture. A black powder-coated framework to match the crittal-style doors complimented with natural oak wood-effect aluminium louvres to introduce warmth and contrast. The result is a bespoke architectural feature that feels fully integrated rather than added on.

Multi-Zone Living, Seamlessly Connected

To maximise usability and create distinct yet connected spaces, the installation incorporates a range of enclosure options:

  • Motorised screens to the garden and patio elevations for adjustable shelter and filtered views
  • Sliding louvred panels along the boundary for increased privacy and a solid visual backdrop
  • Internal sliding panels between the two Pods to separate the hot tub area from the dining and cooking zones

This zoning allows the clients to adapt the space instantly, from open and social to private and intimate.

Engineered for Year-Round Comfort

To ensure true all-season use:

  • Integrated heating extends comfort into colder months
  • Integrated lighting creates atmosphere into the evening
  • Somfy-powered automation with app control and remote backup provides effortless operation

Project Delivery & Craftsmanship

This was a complex, multi-trade project involving landscaping, groundworks, electrics, and AV integration, requiring careful coordination throughout.

A dedicated Caribbean project co-ordinator ensured:

  • Alignment across all contractors and timelines
  • Accurate specification of foundations and service requirements
  • Seamless communication from concept through to completion

Installation took place by our own salaried installation team, ensuring:

  • Precise alignment across both structures
  • Flawless integration with surrounding elements
  • A premium, consistent finish throughout

The Result

The finished space is nothing short of transformative.

What was once a weather-dependent garden is now a fully adaptable outdoor living environment, offering:

  • Open-air enjoyment in summer
  • Shelter and protection in poor weather
  • Warm, inviting spaces in the evening and through winter

Multiple zones now allow the clients to cook, dine, relax, and unwind, all within one cohesive, beautifully designed structure.
