Robust Retractable Folding Arm Awnings - Made in Britain
A retractable awning is a fabric canopy that extends from the wall of your home on folding arms, then rolls neatly back into a protective cassette when it isn’t needed. Because you choose how far it opens, you can have full shade at midday, partial cover in the evening or open sky, all at the touch of a button. Retractable folding arm awnings are the most popular type of awning on UK homes and restaurants, and most are motorised for convenience.
The folding arms on our folding arm awnings, feature twin heavy duty double coiled springs that attach to and are put under tension from up to 4 hi-tensile, tear-resistant, sheathed intertwined stainless steel cables. The arms attach to either a back profile or end blocks (depending on the model awning) along with the front profile (leadrail). When the awning is operated, the folding arms which are under maximum tension, push on the leadrail and the fabric, which is wrapped around the rollertube extends, staying taut at every position, part or fully open.
Most awnings typically have 2 folding arms, however, on our Cuba model awning, which can achieve widths up to 14m, there can be anything from 2 to 6 folding arms, dependent on the width to ensure optimum fabric tension.
Full cassette casings on all our awnings, conceal the fabric and folding arms when not in use, protecting them from inclement weather, minimising maintenance along with providing a neat hideaway for the awning.
Fixing brackets that are concealed behind the awning cassette casing allow a safe installation to load-bearing facades. Bespoke brackets and even freestanding frameworks can be designed and produced to allow our folding arm awnings to be installed in even the most awkward of situations.
Choosing the right retractable awning
For a typical patio outside French or bifold doors, the Anguilla and Tortola both cover up to 5 metres wide. The Anguilla is our best-value retractable awning and the only model available with manual operation, while the Tortola adds app control as standard. For wide terraces, larger gardens and commercial spaces, the Cuba spans up to 14 metres and withstands stronger winds. Not sure which suits your space?
