How Automated Smart Blinds Work

How our motorised sensor controlled blinds work

Automated blinds have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years as temperatures continue to rise and simply refer to a blind(s) that is not only motorised, fitted with a tubular motor and operated by remote control but also linked into relevant sensors that based on the ambient conditions automatically position the blind for maximum effectiveness.

The most common sensor type configured with our blinds is a dual light/heat and wind sensor. This automatically extends a blind when a set light level is reached (typically 20,000 lux), but also retracts the blind if strong winds pose a danger or if the light level falls below the threshold. Built-in delay times for light and wind levels prevent the blind opening and closing repeatedly in a short space of time.

Smart and automated blinds are particularly important when a property is unoccupied, as they ensure when temperatures rise, the blind automatically extends to prevent excessive solar heat gain, ensuring when you arrive back, the property is at a cool and comfortable temperature.

For additional ‘automatic’ functionality, a smart hub can be plugged into the broadband, which allows the blinds to operate from an app on any smart device including iPhones, with features including scheduling, automatically extending/retracting blinds at pre-determined times of each day and allowing blinds to be operated from anywhere in the country or world. Furthermore, the smart hub allows seamlessly linking in with popular smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Sensors can be included as part of the initial installation or added at a later stage as needed. Other sensors include rain sensors, that automatically retract blinds during wet weather.

All automated blinds from Caribbean Blinds feature the latest technology including motors, controls and sensors from industry leaders Somfy, ensuring a smooth, effortless functioning.

It looks really lovely

Just a short note to thank you very much for my awning.  It looks really lovely and it was great, just came in time for the hot spell.  I must say that the two workmen came and were very good and made a good job of fitting, and clearing up and leaving everything tidy.

Very happy with the quality of the installation

Thank you for a fantastic product and service. I am very happy with the quality of the installation. I also want to commend the installation team – forgot the names now but they were extremely professional and friendly. This is the best ever service I received – from the quote through to the installation.

Really just excellent

Your service team were just so impressive. A refreshing change when in London. On time, completed tasks (service and checks) super efficient,  smiled all the way through…gave me feedback on how to maintain system.  Really just excellent.

Transformed our swim spa area completely

The outdoor living pod has transformed our swim spa area completely. We are now able to use our swim spa all year round. With the automated louvered roof and blinds, it has provided us with so many options to accommodate the typical British weather.

A wonderful construction which adapts to all weathers

We couldn’t be more delighted with our wonderful new Living Pod, we now have an amazing space outside to sit, relax, cook & entertain. It is a wonderful construction which adapts to all weathers and we never have to cancel a barbeque again due to the rain. Caribbean blinds have been superb throughout the whole process and we cannot recommend them highly enough.

Brilliant addition to the garden we designed

We introduced our client to Caribbean Blinds whilst we were working on a large scale garden landscaping project. Our client was very impressed with the service he received and the quality of the product. On site we found the installation team to be fantastic – they were courteous, hardworking , knowledgeable and very efficient. The canopy was a brilliant addition to the garden we designed and featured heavily in our finished photos which were incredibly popular on our social media. We look forward to the next install of Caribbean Blinds on one of our projects.

Without doubt the feature of our garden

When designing our garden we appreciated that the UK isn’t something we can reply on. We wanted somewhere we could enjoy in the sun, but relax in the rain. After a lot of research we decided to purchase a Caribbean Blind Outdoor Living Pod. They came and surveyed it and when surveying we decided to add a central leg to split the blind up and create a doorway. It was something I’m told they hadn’t done before but was so accommodating. The end product is without doubt the feature of our garden and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Previously it was a no-go zone

We had this installed earlier in the summer outside our southwest facing bifold doors. It has transformed our kitchen. Previously it was a no-go zone on hot summer days. Now it is cool and shady when it’s hot and we can open up the roof when it is overcast so we still get the light. A much more environmentally friendly solution than an air con system. We are really pleased.
