Magic Glass: Is It Worth The Hype?

You may have noticed a number of conservatories available today include some form of “magic glass,” such as solar glazing and tinted roofs, supposedly designed to limit the amount of heat reaching the conservatory.

And whilst many people are under the impression this type of glass alone will be adequate enough to keep a conservatory cool during the summer; with over 25 years experience in the field of solar shading, we know this simply isn’t the case.

Infra-red light is what generates heat and solar reflective glass works by absorbing these rays. This said, the amount of heat that can be absorbed by “magic glass” is often highly exaggerated by the manufacturers. Therefore, all too often customers are advised against roof blinds, which would effectively solve the problem, and encouraged to purchase “magic glass” instead, resulting in a potentially unusable conservatory, particularly during the Summer months.

However, there is good news, as our external roof blinds, such as those pictured above, act like air conditioning by blocking up to 96% of the sun’s incoming solar heat radiation, to create a cool, comfortable space that can be enjoyed 365 days a year.

The benefits of our external roof blinds can also be experienced during the Winter months. For instance, when the weather turns colder, air is trapped between the external blind fabric and glass to provide additional thermal insulation which slows heat loss from the building, therefore reducing your heating bills whilst keeping your conservatory warm and cosy.

As well as forming this pleasant interior environment, our sleek external roof blinds boast many additional features that “magic glass” simply cannot offer, such as increased privacy and reduced glare along with adding kerb appeal and value to your home for many years to come.

Correctly fitted roof blinds from Caribbean, ensure that irrespective of the sun’s position in the sky and whatever the aspect, glare caused by peak Summer/low Winter sun is effectively diffused, so you can rest assured you can use your conservatory to its full potential throughout all four seasons.

With Summer just around the corner, and 2016 expected to be another year of record high temperatures, it’s the ideal time to get your external blinds installed to ensure a cool, comfortable living space. To find out more about external blinds and/or to receive a free no obligation survey and quotation, contact one of our exterior shading experts today on 0344 800 1947 or fill in our quick enquiry form here.

Alternatively, we will also be exhibiting at The Homebuilding & Renovating Show which runs from 14th-17th of April giving you an invaluable opportunity to see our full range of solar shading products in action.
