Even Curved Facades Don’t Phase Us!

Following on from our article on the 15th – Overcoming Obstacles – the above photo is another example of how our unsurpassed technical knowledge and experience allows us to provide solutions to even the most awkward of situations.

This 5* restaurant fronting the River Thames wanted to provide all year round shade and shelter to their entire terrace measuring more than 15m long, however, the building had a curved facade and part of the requirement was that this had to be protected from the elements too.

Whilst every other company would have either walked away from this challenge or stood there scratching their heads, this is exactly the type of project and challenge we relish at Caribbean.

Taking a fancy to our modular Outdoor Living Pod (OLP) we designed, to bridge the void between the curved facade and straight back to our OLP which measured 1m at its maximum point, laser cut aluminium panels with angled edges, finished in the same textured powdercoated finish as the OLP itself, that slotted between the OLP and building facade attaching to both via a discreet pop rivet assembly.

To make the situation a little tougher, the tight deadline meant that we could not install the OLP first, then measure for and install the infill section after, instead, the entire solution had to be installed together meaning the OLP location had to be perfectly set out at survey, so we could calculate and obtain the critical curve angle and dimensions for the infill panel (see CAD drawing below) to ensure a perfect fit – which it was!

For Caribbean these types of bespoke requirements are part of our daily work and this project is a great example of the difference of dealing direct with the UK's only dedicated exterior blinds and outdoor shading solutions specialist, with an unbroken track record of more than a quarter of a century.
