Introducing Matt Sears – Our New Shading Technician

At Caribbean Blinds, we believe that our team members are the backbone of our success. We take immense pride in welcoming new talents who bring their unique skills and perspectives to our family-oriented business. Today, we are excited to introduce Matt Sears, our New Shading Technician. With his passion for craftsmanship and attention to detail, Matt is a valuable addition to our assembly team.

In this article, we’ll get to know Matt better as he shares insights into his role, his favourite aspects of working at CB, and some interesting bits from his personal life.

  1. How would you summarise your position?

In my role as an Advanced Shading Technician, I have the responsibility of assembling awnings and canopies from start to finish. This involves various tasks such as cutting, assembling, adjusting pitch, and setting limits on most models. I also ensure that the final product is properly packed and ready for shipping.

  1. Could you share a few details about your favourite part of your role and the team at CB?

One of the things I love most about working at CB is being a part of a family business. We all work together closely and create a positive and enjoyable work environment, we share plenty of laughs to help us get through the day. As for my favourite aspect of the job, I particularly enjoy building Antiguan and Dominica blinds as well as fabric canopies. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the final product come together.

  1. What is the most important thing you have learned at CB?

CB has taught me the value of quality control from start to finish. With a keen eye for imperfections in both metal and fabrics, I have learned to ensure that every detail meets the highest standards. Each model of awning comes with its own set of small adjustments, which has expanded my skillset and attention to detail.

  1. What stands out most about the culture at CB?

What stands out most to me about CB’s culture is the exceptional knowledge and pride that everyone I have worked with has. The team is highly skilled and takes immense pride in their work. It creates an inspiring atmosphere.

  1. What attracted you to work for CB?

Prior to joining CB, I worked as a shipper/receiver at an awning business in Maine, USA for over five years. So I decided to pursue a similar role closer to my hometown of Sudbury, CB stood out to me, the company has a reputation for excellence.

  1. Tell us something interesting about your personal life?

Outside of work, I lead an active and diverse lifestyle. I have a passion for riding my dual-sport motorcycle. When I’m not on the road, you can often find me immersed in video games, especially as a big fan of the Elder Scrolls series. I enjoy snowboarding, BMXing, and being part of the skate culture. Spending quality time at home with my wife and German Shepherd is something I cherish a lot. As for my favourite places, Boston, Maine, and New Hampshire have been memorable places.

And of course, my new love for a Howies Big Biggie! If you know, you know.

We’re delighted to announce that Matt Sears has passed his 6-month probation and is now officially a part of the CB family. His dedication, attention to detail, and passion for awning assembly will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing success. We look forward to seeing Matt excel in his role and grow within our organisation.
