Weather Tech For Blinds And Awnings

Caribbean Blinds | Sensor Technology | External Blinds | Patio Awnings

Britain is notorious for its unpredictable weather, caused by the cold polar air battling the warm tropic air – this can cause quite a nuisance at times, especially when you’ve got the washing out. Predicting the weather may be a losing battle but there is one way of staying ahead of it when it comes to our blinds and awnings.

At Caribbean Blinds we have been manufacturing and installing innovative external shading solutions for over 30 years. During that time we have consistently developed and innovated our systems to ensure they can withstand all weather conditions and this includes the technology incorporated into them.

Technology has quickly become an essential part of our everyday lives, benefiting our health & wellbeing and making both us and our homes more efficient. A range of wirefree sensors including wind, light and heat allow our shading systems to think for themselves, positioning themselves automatically based on the ambient conditions for maximum efficiency and safety.

The most popular of our sensors is the vibration (wind) sensor featured on our folding arm awnings. Retractable awnings can be like a sail in the wind and this clever and discreet sensor, mounted to the leading edge of the awning detects the three dimensional movement (up/down, forward/back, side/side) of the awning when part or fully extended and if it exceeds the windspeed capability of the particular model, it will automatically retract it to protect both the awning and the attachment to the property*. When paired with a light (sun) sensor, the awning will automatically extend when a set light (sun) level is reached to keep the adjoining indoor room cool and retract when strong winds pose a danger. Caribbean Blinds | Sensor Technology | External Blinds | Patio AwningsFor operation of your shading system from anywhere in the world, you can opt for the ingenious Tahoma Smart Hub. This smart little box plugs into the home broadband (router) and opens up a whole range of additional features. Not only can operate your blind or awning via an app on your smartphone, you can see exactly the position of the shading system at any time and also set a certain partway position for it to automatically go to, without having to stop it where you want. There are scheduling and agenda features built in so you can set different positions for your blind or awning to go to at any time of the day. There is even a holiday feature that will have your shading system randomly position itself to make it appear as if the property is occupied.

*Whilst wind sensors are designed to protect the product from wind damage, they cannot be considered a fail safe device, as a large awning retracting in windy conditions can be damaged from the wind and therefore it is always recommended the user retracts the awning if strong winds are predicted.
